Verizon is talking to Apple about creating a new iPhone.  Currently At&T has a lock on iPhones in the U.S. into 2010.   But USA Today reports Apple is eyeing Verizon's 80 million untapped customers.  Since Verizon uses different technology, the phone has to be re-engineered.  iPhone owners could not simply switch; they would have to buy new phones.  But if the deal goes though, it would create intense competition between Verizon and At&T, along with plenty of deals and discounts for consumers.
