We already miss that 30-year-old old sign at the left.
You know, there are places you can go to buy old vintage advertising signs. They cost some serious money.
There are places you can go to eat where you are surrounded by mementoes of bygone eras.
You won't find either of those kinds of places in Green Hills. Make no mistake. We like Green Hills. The residents we know are terrific people. Regular people.
People who want to know what the hell happened to the Fox's Donut Den sign? They're too nice to say it that way, so we'll say it for them.
Oh we know the answer. Progress, baby. Moving on up. Renovation. Homogenization.
But that sign along Hillsboro Road had become rather iconic, harkening back to a time before the street became the parking lot it is far too often today. Oh Fox's Donut Den is still there, and will be for some time, dispensing those delicious little fat pills for those of us who need a sugar fix to go along with our caffeine.
But what of the little Dutch boy? We're told he may be back, albeit in some altered form. OK, you can maybe give him a fresh coat of paint. But no Abercrombie fashion update, and you'd better keep the neon.
