Students at Middle Tennessee State University will soon be able to text campus police about emergency situations. The university got $1.6 million from the Federal Government to update their call center with a new system that accepts text messages, in addition to pictures and video from cell phones. Campus police have already used an image from a student's cell phone to capture an assault suspect. Students believe the new system will be more convenient to use.  Student Clematris Jarrett says, "They're going to get a lot more information because it's more convenient, because not everyone wants to call police or 911 if they see something going on on campus".
The stimulus money will also be used to purchase additional emergency call boxes. The university will be ready to implement the new 911 system in the coming months, as News 2 reports.
