People are stealing water in LaVergne, and the mayor wants to make it a crime to tamper with a water meter. NewsChannel 5 reports on 5 incidents in the last few weeks.
Some people are cutting the locks on the meters after their service is shut off. Others are installing their own pipes to bypass the meters, according to News 2.
LaVergne isn’t the only city trying to turn off water thefts. On Tap Magazine dives into the issue , and says the Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Service is helping cities and towns facing this problem.
