David Kernell, son of state Rep Mike Kernell (D-Memphis) stands accused of identity theft, wire fraud, unauthorized access to a protected computer and obstruction of justice. During the 2008 presidential campaigh, Kernell allegedly broke into Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin's personal e-mail account, changed the password and then discussed his exploits on-line.
The case begin in September of 2008 when news stories suggested that then-Governor palin was using her personal e-mail account to conduct state business.

A federal judge in Knoxville has ruled a defense request to see all emails from Sarah Palin's private account a "...dragnet subpoena..." and refused the request. More from knoxnews.com.
