Earlier this month, New Orleans Mayor Rich Landrieu asked U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for a federal intervention for the New Orleans Police Department. Landrieu wrote that "it is clear that nothing short of a complete transformation is necessary and essential to ensure safety for the citizens of New Orleans." LINK
On Monday the request was honored when federal officials launched a top-to-bottom review of the troubled department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney General Tom Perez said that the cooperation being displayed by NOLA city officials including new police chief Ronal Serpas is "unprecedented."
When Nashville's former Police Chief was asked how the NOLA police department would react to the feds, he said “the hardworking people welcome it."
