Administrators at Middle Tennessee State University are acting quickly to make mandated budget cuts in the school's operations.
Among the courses of action under consideration: A proposal to increase online courses, an expansion of majors in the Department of Philosophy and a possible merger of Social Work, Criminal Justice Administration, Sociology and Anthropology operations.
It's been ten days since MTSU President Sidney McPhee released the "Positioning the University for the Future" document. In the College of Mass Communication, campus radio station WMOT and campus newspaper Sidelines are developing business plans that will cut their reliance on university funding and become more self-sustaining.
Also being studied is how the various components of the College of Mass Communication, including the radio station, the newspaper, the record label and the TV station would be combined into a media center that would give students a broader range of experience while reducing costs.
Another proposal would have Nashville Public Radio station WPLN assuming operations of WMOT.
