The backyard chicken movement is crowing. People are setting up small chicken coops in urban neighborhoods for organic eggs, fertilizer, and extra bucks. But neighbors waking up to cock-a-doodle-do before the crack of dawn are complaining. From Atlanta, to Kansas City to San Francisco, local governments are mediating ruffled feathers. The Leaf Chronicle has the story of Mable Biccum, a retiree who set up a chicken coop in the alley behind her home in Henderson, KY. She's trying to scratch out a living with fresh eggs. But Mable has run afoul of the city zoning board.
