Thrift stores have been thriving on the down economy. Goodwill, one of the nation's top five non-profit brands, has seen an increase in customer transactions. As the holiday season nears, the organization is having a hard time keeping costumes, ornaments, decorations from flying off the shelves.
Kay-Pittman, spokesperson for Goodwill of Middle Tennessee, said "While we're perhaps seeing the same number of donors come through, they're not donating as much as they used to. In the past they may have given us three bags, now they're giving us one." News 2 reports donor contributions are down from previous years but the organization is gearing up for a busy rest of the year.
Goodwill's mission statement: "Goodwill Industries International enhances the dignity and quality of life of individuals, families, and communities by eliminating barriers to opportunity and helping people in need reach their fullest potential through the power of work".
