Highest prices at the pump in the last year and a half.

The AAA sampled area service stations on Monday and report the average price of regular rose 18.5¢ per gallon in the last month, to nearly $2.70.

Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.Com., said prices are rising with springtime temperatures and the improving economy. Chattanooga prices were up 1.1 cents in the past week, Mr. DeHaan said.

Ironically, as the weather warms up, so does the gasoline, making it less dense, containing less usable energy per gallon.
