Metro Police Chief Ronal Serpas tells lawmakers he needs a trendy new weapon to fight gang activity. It's called a gang injunction law. Cities in California and Texas are already using gang injunctions to identify gang members, and keep them away from schools, public housing and other areas where police are worried about gang activity. Chief Serpas says the police department has identified 3,200 gang members in Nashville.
Not everyone likes the gang injunction concept because they fear it encourages racial profiling. And The San Francisco Chronicle reports it has split up families.
News2 reports lawmakers may debate the bill as early as next week.
