The movement to sell wine in supermarkets is dead this year. The House sponsor withdrew his bill because he doesn't have enough support to get it passed. When Governor Bredesen heard the news he told the Associated Press, "I can't imagine what danger to the fabric of society would exist by having wine in supermarkets." Grocers across the state say Tennessee is losing millions of dollars in revenue. But the powerful wine and liquor lobby claims changing the law will cost jobs.
