The state Senate has ordered an audit of the Edison Project, a new computer system which promises to make state operations virtually paperless. Channel 4 News and the Tennessean report state workers are complaining that it doesn't work properly and spits out mistakes on employee paychecks. The Edison Project has so far cost the state $135 million. Sen. Bill Ketron (R-Murfreesboro) who is Chairman of the Fiscal Review Committee, has ordered the Comptroller's office to investigate what's wrong.
In the House, Rep. Phillip Johnson (R-Pegram) revealed his paycheck had dramatic mistakes. Rep. Joe McCord (R-Maryville) said his insurance had been mysteriously canceled. The House Finance Committee demanded an explanation from Finance Commissioner Dave Goetz and the computer programmers.
