Three Tennesee congressmen are asking for more than $358 million in government spending for their districts. They're required to post their earmarks on their congressional websites. The new policy went into effect this year in the wake of public outrage over wasteful spending.
A watchdog group called Taxpayers for Common Sense says some House members appear to be hiding the information. The group says John Duncon (R-Knoxville) and Zach Wamp (R-Chattanooga) are making it hard to find their earmarks. Duncan is asking for $178 million, and says he doesn't know where his spending requests are on his Website because he doesn't use computers. Wamp is asking for $78 million, but it's listed under general "legislative information" on his site.
By contrast, the watchdogs are cheering for Lincoln Davis (D-Pall Mall). He's asking for $102 million for his district and a link on his home page called "appropriations" goes directly to the information.
