Handgun permit holders will be allowed to bring their guns into Columbia's city parks. A proposal to opt out of the new state "guns in parks" measure was handily rejected.
Columbia's "Daily Herald" reports the council debated the issue as a matter of public safety versus a civil right.
Public safety came up short in the 5-2 vote.
