Raising taxes during a recession is the last thing a politician wants to do.  So it's no surprise that Wilson County Commissioners failed to make a decision on whether to raise the wheel tax to build a new high school in Lebanon.  What is surprising...they turned the decision over to the voters.  And as the Lebanon Democrat reports, even if taxpayers vote against the wheel tax, it's going to cost them a lot of money.   The county will have to schedule a special election this fall, which will cost an estimated $100,000.
News 2's Jamey Tucker asks the obvious question:  Why didn't Commissioners just make the decision?
