Nashville Mayor Karl Dean is calling the proposed Music City Center a great opportunity to boost the city's economy. He says the convention center will act as a "stimulus" for the city by providing jobs and helping the local construction industry. The mayor believes at thousands of idle construction workers could go back to work on the project.
Mayor Dean comments, "We are down about 12% in terms of construction jobs and building the convention center adds back about half those jobs once that process begins and while its being built".
News 2 reports that construction companies are seeing signs of improvement as the economy picks up.
