Higher education leaders in Tennessee recommended a "minimal increase" in tuition during state budget hearings. It appears that means a 5% hike.  Richard Rhoda, executive director of the Higher Education Commission, says that's the unanimous recommendation from the University of Tennessee system and the Board of Regents. The director calls it the smallest tuition hike in recent years, and credits the federal stimulus program.
But according to News 2, college students will face higher tuition costs and possible cutbacks once federal stimulus money runs out. Students will loose scheduling flexibility and face larger classes.
