In a letter sent to Sevier County leaders, the group Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU) says the County Commission violates the First Amendment by beginning each meeting with a recitation of the Lord's Prayer in a courtroom graced by a picture of the Ten Commandments.

At Monday night's meeting of the Commission, a crowd some Commissioners called the biggest they've ever seen gathered to attend although the issue was not even on the agenda.

So far, AU has not filed a suit, but County Mayor Larry Watersters promised that if one appears, county leaders are ready to fight.
