Kellogg's cereals has agreed to comply with advertising restrictions for Rice Krispies after the Federal Trade Commission found that the company falsely advertised that the cereal improved children's health. Snap, Crackle, Stop! at Fox News.
This editor has been unable to locate the impetus for the judgement by the FTC, but suspects that it was not in response to more than 100,000 complaints from concerned parents.
The Federal Communications Commission is planning to levy a $25,000 fine against the Fox Network (or Fox-owned stations, or Fox affiliates; it's not clear at press time). The main question is about an episode of "American Dad" that included some unbridled horseplay, although the actual fine itself has nothing to do with the content of the program but rather "apparent willful and repeated violations" of a commission order to respond to [an] inquiry [regarding which Fox stations aired the episode].
The impetus for this action is also not clear, but it may have something to do with 100,000 indecency complaints about the episode which may or may not have been generated by the Parents Television Council. After all, the PTC did ask politely.
