If you are grinding your teeth at night you may be anxious about the economy. Dentists across the country are seeing a spike in this unusual sign of economic distress. More people are grinding their teeth and clenching their jaws. According to NewsChannel 5, some mid state dentists say the rate has tripled since the recession started. Their patients are waking up with headaches, earaches, and depression. The Tufts Journal reports on this phenomenon and says people who clench or grind their teeth may exert as much as 250 pounds per square inch of pressure on their teeth, gums and jaws, resulting in chipped or broken teeth, gingivitis and receding gum lines. Now that's really something to worry about.
