Move over Botox. There's a new technology that can fix frown lines using radio-frequency, and the results last up to 22 months. The Commercial Appeal reports on bipolar radio-frequency, which temporarily incapacitates nerve tissue to the muscles that cause wrinkles. The commercial name is Relaxed Expressions. The technology has been used for cardiac arrhythmia for years. Treating frown lines is currently an off-label use.
Twenty doctors across the country are doing clinical trials using Relaxed Expressions, to win FDA approval. Dr. Phillip R. Langsdon, chief of Facial Plastic Surgery at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis, is looking for volunteers for his study.
