As the number of people with symptoms of the H1N1 virus, or swine flu, increases, so do attempts to raise awareness that this particular strain of flu - or any strain of flu for that matter - is a public health problem.
For instance, for about $20, you can equip yourself with a "combat kit" that will increase your chances of warding off the flu, H1N1 or otherwise. Check this out.
We recently heard about a college campus situation (not around here, ok?) in which a student showed up to a lab session with a temperature of 102 and very obvious flu symptoms. The student didn't want to let the rest of the lab participants down. It's the kind of....dumb behavior that can cause problems.
With that in mind, Vanderbilt students are engaging in some activities to raise awareness of the dangers of swine flu, and the fact that a college campus is a prime breeding ground for the virus unless the proper precautions are taken.
In the meantime, urgent care clinics are preparing themselves for a rush of patients in the coming weekend and months. News 2 has more on those preps in the story above.
