The U.S. Department of Commerce has repeated its support for the Performance Rights Act. In a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Patric Leahy (D-Vt.) Commerce's Cameran Kerry writes "If enacted, the bill would advance public welfare by compensating American performers and the record companies that produce and distribute their creative works." The letter also calls performance royalties for broadcast radio "a matter of fundamental fairness."
