Dolly Parton will be walking on sunshine when she gets an honorary doctorate of humane and musical letters from the University of Tennessee on May 8th. The businesswoman, songwriter, singer and philathropist who grew up poor in Sevier County has proven she's no Backwoods Barbie. And Dolly will be taking bows on a second stage that week. She opens on Broadway April 30th in the musical version of 9 to 5.
Dolly's appearance at Commencement means seating will be scarce. UT students and staff got a warning letter on Thursday. Graduates and guests must show tickets to get in the door, and the public is not invited. This is only the second time UT has ever given out an honorary degree. The first one went to former US Senator Howard Baker in 2005.
