Without Kitty Wells, we might not have Loretta Lynn. Or Patsy Cline. Or Dolly Parton. We could go on.
Kitty Wells was the trailblazer. The woman who sang of lost and betrayed love, who pointed the finger at that cheatin' man and accused him of all sorts of low behavior.
In the process, she became the first female country music star. She just turned 90. Her life and career were celebrated here in Nashville over the weekend.
Above, she sings the song that made her a star back in 1952, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels". But he did make Kitty Wells. Happy 90th, Miss Wells.
