Consider this a comment on the sad state of the mainstream music biz these days.
Singer Ronnie Milsap is a legend who hasn't exactly been burning up the charts lately. Probably because he doesn't wear a hat.
Trace Adkins is doing fine, thank you. So the two of them teamed up for a duet on a new label, Bleve Records. It's called "My First Ride" and you can listen to it here. Just click on the player.
Capitol Records, Adkins' label, has got its knickers in a twist over the duet. So twisted that the label is trying to keep the record off the air. Capitol, once an 800 pound gorilla in the music business is afraid that the Milsap/Adkins duet will somehow wreak havoc on Adkins' sales and the sales of other Capitol artists.
So Capitol is trying to keep it off the radio, and even the Internet.
Ironically, any proceeds from the sale of the single are slated to benefit the International Association of Fire Fighters and the Fraternal Order of Police. The entire project was conceived as a fundraiser of sorts.
Good PR move Capitol.
Milsap is fighting back - in a most unusual manner. He even did a lip sync protest in front of the label about a week ago. He was at it again today. News 2's story on his most recent and rather loud protest is in the video box.
