Without fanfare, construction crews removed the gates to Chattanooga's "The Passage," and turned on the water. The Passage, a  pedestrian link between downtown Chattanooga and the Tennessee River, is located on the Trail of Tears at Ross’s Landing, the city’s original settlement, named for the great Cherokee Chief John Ross. The area had been closed since 2008, due to safety concerns.
