Burkina celebrates Independence Day, from France in 1960
The Metro Public Health Department will open the annual Fast Lane Immunization Clinics for children heading back to school. Children’s immunizations are free to Davidson County residents. The Health Department will open its annual Fast Lane Immunization Clinic August 5th and 6th and then again August 9th – 13th. The Fast Lane clinic will be located at the Lentz Public Health Center, auditorium, 311 23rd Avenue North. The clinic will be open from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day.

Grapes of Wrath is a stage adaptation of John Steinbeck’s Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize winning story of three generations of a family struggling to survive during the Dust Bowl Era. Clay Hillwig will direct this challenging classic, which will require a 1930’s style car on stage.
On August 6, join us for a performance of scenes from the stage adaptation of John Steinbeck’s epic followed by a discussion on how the story relates to today’s migrant workers.

Come celebrate Metro Parks' 26th annual summer of Big Band Dances! The event premiered with the opening of Riverfront Park in 1983, and over the years the popular dances have moved to Centennial Park. This year the free dances will be held every Saturday from June 6 through August 29, at the Band Shelter in Centennial Park. To help celebrate 26 years of Big Band music and dancing, we will hold weekly amateur swing dance contests. There will also be free ballroom dance lessons sponsored by Dance World from 7:00pm-7:30pm and 8:30pm-8:50pm.
The Centennial Café will have food and beverages for sale. People of all ages are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs or quilts to sit on the lawn. Parking is available along Park Plaza and in the Park. Presented by Metro Parks, the dances are sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission, WAMB, Dance World and Arts in the Parks.
Hallowed Ground: A Lantern Tour of Stones River National Cemetery
Stones River National Battlefield will offer nine presentations of Hallowed Ground: A Lantern Tour of Stones River National Cemetery during 2010.
Hallowed Ground is a program dedicated to allowing visitors to appreciate the cost of war through the stories of soldiers, and their loved ones, who are buried in Stones River National Cemetery. A ranger will lead the group on a lantern lit walk through the cemetery and stop at several gravesites where volunteers portraying soldiers and civilians will share stories taken from the letters and diaries of the period.
The program last about an hour. Videotaping, flash photography, and flashlights are not permitted during the program.
Reservations are required and must be made by calling (615) 893-9501 starting at 9 AM on the Monday preceding the program date. Reservations will not be taken in the visitor center or by e-mail. There is a limit of four tickets per caller and reservations are not transferable to another program date.

The 7th Tennessee Calvary, Co. D Comes to Belle Meade Plantation Saturday, August 7!
Come experience the life of a Civil War Cavalry Company.
The 7th Tennessee Cavalry, Co. D. was reactivated into service in 1986 by a group of historian/horsemen from mostly west and middle Tennessee, northern Missippi and Alabama. The original unit was the same that Nathan Bedford Forrest joined as a private, only to ascend eventually to the rank of Lt. General. The current incarnation of the unit participates in 8 - 10 events and/or Living Histories per year, mostly in the southeastern part of the United States. The 7th Tennessee has been involved in several motion picture endeavors for either the screen or in some cases for National Park offices. The men of the 7th Tennessee provide all of their own horses, tack, weapons, gear, etc. with no outside funding and are dedicated to historical accuracy and educating the public as to the life and accomplishments of the Confederate cavalryman of the western theatre of the war.

Every first Saturday of the month, multiple downtown galleries open their doors to avid art lovers as well as anyone else that is just curious to see what the Gallery Crawl is all about. Over 1,000 people attend this very popular monthly event. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. The gallery crawl is a great free night on the town!
The Nashville Downtown Partnership provides a free shuttle between galleries. Participating galleries subject to change.
The Lipman Group Sotheby’s International Realty- Urban Abode Division has partnered with the Nashville Downtown Partnership First Saturday Art Crawl, to present the Sotheby’s Urban Abode Art Crawl and Home Tour. The home tour will feature access to some of downtown Nashville’s beautiful urban properties. Each space will incorporate local artists’ work and live music to highlight the aesthetic features of the lofts and townhomes.
A portion of proceeds from artwork sales will benefit Gilda’s Club Nashville, and tour attendees will have an opportunity at each location to donate directly to the organization. This premier tour is also free and open to the public.
The Brentwood, Forest Hills and Oak Hill communities Farmers Market
The market provides a diverse selection of fruits, vegetables, herbs and meats grown by area farmers. Fresh cakes and pastries will also be available, prepared by a local baker who provides desserts to many of Nashville's upscale restaurants. Growers have been asked to donate portions of their fresh produce each week to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
