We can think of nothing more annoying that sitting at a red light, and seeing the person in the next car texting while barely paying attention to the world outside their car. It becomes downright frightening when they take off, still texting.
It's safe to say that texting while driving has become epidemic. It's also safe to say that a lot of us would like to see it eliminated. State highway officials across the country are joining the chorus, seeking stiffer penalites for those caught driving while texting. Over in Britain, police in one small community decided perhaps the best way to cut down on the incidence of texting would be to scare the hell out of the people who do it. So they came up with this rather frightening public service announcement.
The problem is, even with tough laws on the books, how do you catch violators? Tennessee does have a law on the books. But as Newschannel 5 found out, officers are finding that enforcing the law is more than difficult. The story is above.
