It's mating season - and we're not talking about birds and bees. We're talking deer. They're roaming the roads in search of romance. And that means danger for drivers.
According to News 2, car crashes involving deer happen more often than you might think. There were 5,140 crashes in Tennessee last year alone. 266 people were injured and one person died.
Ben Durham, a manager at Vogley & Todd Collision Center on Murfreesboro Road, says, "This time of year it is pretty steady. Last week, we did four or five. We've got two or three on the shop right now. "
You're most likely to encounter deer at dawn and dusk, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, which has more safety tips online at this link.
