In their final baseball regular-season series, Tennessee (26-29, 11-19 SEC) nearly played the spoiler's role to perfection for in-state rival Vanderbilt (31-24, 12-17 SEC) as the Vols swept the 'Dores in three games, nearly costing Vandy a spot in the SEC Tournament this week. However, in the course of the homestand embarrassment at 'The Hawk', Cody Hawn's game-winning homer in Game 3 Saturday prompted Vanderbilt skipper Tim Corbin to officially challenge what he believed to be 'loaded' bats that the Vols were using. While Corbin's objection likely will produce no consequences because of the ambiguity of current NCAA rules regarding bats, the overall issue with 'loading' composite bats has been a hot one at the college level this season and will likely be addressed at an NCAA rules conference shortly.
