Winning the World Series is familiar territory for the New York Yankees but rescuing a complete stranger from a pile of wreckage is not. Yankees Manager Joe Girardi was overwhelmed late Wednesday night after his team won it's 27th World Series. Girardi and his wife were driving home when they passed an SUV overturned on the side of the road. According to amNewYork.com, Girardi quickly crossed three lanes of traffic to help the young mother.
On Friday, Girardi will join his team for a parade through the city. Crowds will gather from Battery Park to City Hall, where Mayor Bloomberg will present the key to the city, as CBS 2 HD reports. Girardi will accept the gift but will rest comfortably knowing a young mother is safe.
"We can't forget to be human beings where we help others out," Girardi told WFAN. "I think that's the most important thing we can do in life."
