pThe a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/tennessee-titans" class="sbn-auto-link"Tennessee Titans/a today have claimed two linebackers off waivers; a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/18999/Tim_Shaw" class="sbn-auto-link"Tim Shaw/a formerly of the a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/chicago-bears" class="sbn-auto-link"Chicago Bears/a and a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34439/Patrick_Bailey" class="sbn-auto-link"Patrick Bailey/a who was last with the a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/pittsburgh-steelers" class="sbn-auto-link"Pittsburgh Steelers/a.nbsp; To make room on the roster for these two players they cut RB a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108609/LeGarrette_Blount" class="sbn-auto-link"LeGarrette Blount/a and a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34794/Stanford_Keglar" class="sbn-auto-link"Stanford Keglar/a./p
pI think it was a mistake for them to cut Blount.nbsp; I am sure they hope to add him to the practice squad, but with all of the injuries to running backs this preaseason I bet someone claims him.nbsp; Blount obviously had some issues, but he proved that he could run the ball in the last two preseason games.nbsp;/p
pThe Titans also added 6 players to the practice squad today.nbsp; They include DL Hall Davis, WR Dominique Edison, CB Pete Ittersagen, C Kevin Matthews, S Myron Rolle and LB Patrick Trahan.nbsp; That means they have 2 spots still available.nbsp; Told you Myron Rolle would clear waivers./p

pThe Tennessee Titans today cut the roster down to the required 53 players.nbsp; Here is a list of the players who were released according to a href="http://ten.247sports.com/Article/Titans-make-cuts-to-get-down-to-53-man-limit-222" target="_blank"Terry McCormick/a and a href="http://www.tennessean.com/article/20100904/SPORTS01/100904021/2161" target="_blank"Jim Wyatt/a:/p

pNo real surprises here.nbsp; I know there was a lot of chatter about Gado vs. LeGarrette Blount, but Blount earned his way onto the team with his efforts Thursday night if he didn't already havenbsp;a spot.nbsp;/p
pMyron Rolle was the subject of a lot of debate here.nbsp; I expect them to bring him back to the practice squad when/if he clears waivers.nbsp;/p
pI thought Tye Hill would make the club, but he never really did anything to earn a spot.nbsp; I thought they would keep him for depth purposes, but apparently they had someone they liked better at another position.nbsp;/p
pAlso keep in mind that there are still guys who could be cut tomorrow if the Titans find someone they like on waivers./p

p class="MsoNormal"Hello MCM and Titan fans,nbsp;o:p/o:p/p
p class="MsoNormal"Sorry for my long hiatus, I have been very busy with the team and getting ready for these past games.nbsp;o:p/o:p/p
p class="MsoNormal"So camp has been finished for a while and I am excited to finally get through it. It was definitely a grind, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Through the pains and the gains, I learned a lot from it and I think I have been preparing well for the season. I was very fortunate going against the stable of receivers that we have which prepared me for the receivers I faced in the games. I played against some speed, strength, and route running through our guys. So that is what helped me adjust.nbsp;o:p/o:p/p
p class="MsoNormal"Surprises of camp have to be a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/109241/Marc_Mariani" class="sbn-auto-link"Marc Mariani/a, this guy is a football player and he has performed in practice and every time he touched the ball in the preseason. We got to find a way to incorporate him on Sundays! I think Javon ringer has been solid as well. On defense I believe almost everyone been consistent and capable. I have really been impressed with a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2893/Stephen_Tulloch" class="sbn-auto-link"Stephen Tulloch/a, Jason Jones mostly. They show up and make plays everywhere. Our secondary has been excellent. It is a pleasure watching our safety play. The rookie safeties and I been working hard trying to get down the plays and been working together to try to help this team. I believe the corners been playing pretty well especially due to the amount of reps we have to take. It was great seeing Cortland get back out there at practice and in the game. He will be ready to go and be as exciting as ever come Sept. 12supth/sup. I canrsquo;t wait to see it for myself.nbsp;o:p/o:p/p
p class="MsoNormal"Me personally in the preseason, I have been extremely blessed this whole time. I have just been having so much fun and just being allowed to play football. What can I say? Had the privilege to start two games and gained some valuable lessons. Especially in the Carolina game when I guessed on a route and almost cost our team 7 points. I was so upset with myself, but I learned from that play to be more honest/disciplined because it can cost the team. I wish I were able to go against the starting receivers for the saints because they look really good and I think I would have gotten some good work. But I learned from the sidelines. I was glad I was able to start playing some special teams and making some plays finally, which made me satisfied.nbsp;o:p/o:p/p
p class="MsoNormal"Now to the cornerback competition which most people would like to know. I have no report for you unfortunately. They have not made any decisions. But we have all played so well that the decision must be really tough and whichever man they go with will be a good choice. I feel we can all get the job done. It is not in my hands so I will let God show me the way like he ahs for the rest of my life. I am ready to do my part, in whatever facet that will be in because I sincerely believe we can make it far this year!nbsp;o:p/o:p/p
p class="MsoNormal"Today is cut day for the team and I have no clue who will be here and who will go. It will be a sad day and day I wonrsquo;t like too much for a long time to come. But I understand the business side of things. But this also signifies that the season is finally upon us and it is time to prepare for this first game against the Raiders. I canrsquo;t wait to see the real deal now. I canrsquo;t wait to see CJ2K play a full game and our defense a full time! Hopefully I will be out there numerous times as well. So all in all, been a successful and productive couple weeks being a Titan. Irsquo;m glad we got the win Thursday and finished out 2-2, but we are looking for a much better record to start out. Stay tuned to the a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/tennessee-titans" class="sbn-auto-link"Titans/a because we got some things in stored for the NFL this year. I canrsquo;t wait for opening kickoff at noon against the Raiders. What a better way to start it off but to beat a team close to my home!nbsp;o:p/o:p/p
p class="MsoNormal"Also, follow me on twitter @alvern_1 or hit me up on formspring at a href="http://www.formspring.me/atv1ucla"http://www.formspring.me/atv1ucla/anbsp;o:p/o:p/p
p class="MsoNormal"Have a blessed day everyone,nbsp;o:p/o:p/p
p class="MsoNormal"Sincerely,nbsp;o:p/o:p/p

pEvery NFL team has to be down to 53 players by the end of the day Saturday.nbsp; We have spent a lot of time over the last couple of weeks debating guys at the back end of the a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/tennessee-titans" class="sbn-auto-link"Titans/a roster.nbsp; Here are some things I took away from last night that might influence decisions this week:/p
ul
lia href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108609/LeGarrette_Blount" class="sbn-auto-link"LeGarrette Blount/a has to be kept on the 53 man roster.nbsp; I know a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2722/Samkon_Gado" class="sbn-auto-link"Samkon Gado/a has run the ball well, but he has zero upside.nbsp; There will be at least 10 guys out there Saturday that could come in and do the exact same thing.nbsp; Blount has the chance to be a really good back in this league, and a perfect compliment to Chris Johnson.nbsp; If they think they can get him on the practice squad they are foolish./li
liAll of the bubble safeties hurt themselves last night.nbsp; a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71502/Nick_Schommer" class="sbn-auto-link"Nick Schommer/a and Robert Johnson both let punts get blocked.nbsp; Captain Special Teams Donnie Nickey had a holding penalty that nullified a big return by a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/109241/Marc_Mariani" class="sbn-auto-link"Marc Mariani/a.nbsp; Rolle bit on a play action fake that led to a TD.nbsp; Your guess is as good as mine to what they will do here, but I still think Johnson and Nickey are on the team.nbsp; Schommer probably is, and Rolle is cut./li
liThe Titans will be scouring the waiver wire for linebackers and back-up offensive lineman.nbsp; a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71496/Troy_Kropog" class="sbn-auto-link"Troy Kropog/a probably still gets a spot because of his versatility and familiarity with the system, but he simply cannot play tackle./li
liTwo weeks ago I thought a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108606/Rusty_Smith" class="sbn-auto-link"Rusty Smith/a was a lock.nbsp; Last week I thought we could cut him and no one would care.nbsp; Now I think he makes the team, but he would pass through waivers.nbsp; He will be one of the first ones gone if they need a spot in a pinch during the season.nbsp; He has a good arm, but he is a long way away from being a guy that can be counted on./li

Dropped passes, mental lapses and terrible body language don't create the kind of momentum we'd hoped for heading in to the season. Britt is being honest and open about his struggles, and at this point he sounds like a baseball player in the midst of a long slump at the plate. I'm starting to worry if he's beating up on him self too much, and that's what's stopping him from getting some of the momentum it takes to regain confidence on the field./p

QBs and Fantasy Football
div style="float: left; margin: 10px; width: 234px; text-align: center;"a href="http://football.cbssports.com/splash/football/spln/mgmt/offer/a?ttag=ffbc10_on_all_cspt_sbn_ot_0012"img src="http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/379579/234x60_FFC.gif" //a/div
pLet's talk about QBs in fantasy football this year.nbsp; It has always been one of the toughest positions for me in a draft because I am usually not willing to take on early enough to get one of the best guys, and so I end up waiting forever because every time my pick comes around again all of the guys left on the board look the same to me.nbsp; I end up deciding I will get one next time, and that goes on for 5 rounds.nbsp;/p
pIn the last couple of years I have started looking at positions in tiers (I know that is not something new, but I have never really done it before) and looking at the QB numbers from last year I came up with the tiers after the jump:/p
pbTier 1/b/p
pAaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and believe it or not Matt Schaub/p
pbTier 2/b/p
pBrett Favre, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Ben Roethlisberger*, and Philip Rivers/p
pbTier 3/b/p
pJay Cutler, Eli Manning Donovan McNabb, Jason Campbell/p
pbTier 4/b/p
pDavid Garrard, Kyle Orton, Carson Palmer*, Joe Flacco*/p
pbTier 5/b/p
pMatt Ryan*, Matt Cassel, Matt Hasselbeck, Chad Henne, Alex Smith/p
pAgain, that is based on last year's numbers.nbsp; Here are my comments- Rapelisberger has to go down a tier because he will miss 4 games./p
pPalmer, Flacco and Ryan will all move up at least 1 tier this year.nbsp; Ryan might move up two./p
pWith the exception of the above mentioned tier movers, Vince Young is a better option than any of the guys in 4 and 5.nbsp; Book it!/p
pAlso keep in mind that you can get your CBS Fantasy Football league for half off by following this a href="http://football.cbssports.com/splash/football/spln/mgmt/offer/a?ttag=ffbc10_on_all_cspt_sbn_ot_0022" target="_blank"link/a, and don't forget that the award-winning CBSSports.com Fantasy Football Commissioner League is a highly popular fantasy option thanks to its high levels of league customization, its draft options (live, continuous or auction drafts supported), and its mobile phone accessibility, not to mention its historical archiving for future seasons and fast live scoring./p

pHere were a few things that jumped out at me tonight:br /br /bull; Nice to see a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2903/Vince_Young" class="sbn-auto-link"Vince Young/a get a TD pass, nice to see Brown back out there and nice to see a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71501/Javon_Ringer" class="sbn-auto-link"Javon Ringer/a have a huge night. No matter what happens at the bottom of the RB depth chart (see below), we're in damned good position with the one and two.br /br /bull; MCM can not confirm reports that Metro Police are actively searching for the real a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71492/Kenny_Britt" class="sbn-auto-link"Kenny Britt/a. I mean how far away are we from calling Britt 'mercurial'? He's had about the worst preseason of any healthy player I can think of, and that's a big knock to the offense.br /br /bull; If Britt can't get his head straight, I fully endorse putting Jared Cook in the slot. All preseason, when he's gotten the reps, Cook has looked like what we thought we were getting coming out of training camp last year.br /br /bull; You have to find a spot for a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108609/LeGarrette_Blount" class="sbn-auto-link"LeGarrette Blount/a on the 53-man roster. He's raw, and he hasnbsp; lot to learn, but Blount brings more to the table as a runner than Pearman or Gado. If pass blocking is the issue, then they can stick Hall back there in emergency situations for all I care.br /br /bull; a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108643/Myron_Rolle" class="sbn-auto-link"Myron Rolle/a, maybe not so much. I hope they find a way to keep him, or that he passes waivers and makes the practice squad, but he looked bad tonight. The big pass that lead to the Roby TD largely happened because he bit viciously on that play-fake, which left Schommer to cover everything deep.br /br /bull; This defensive line from top to bottom is the best we've ever had in Nashville. Book it. If they stay healthy, and the secondary can cover for just a few seconds, they'll make life hell for every team we face./p
pbull; The deep pass from a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108606/Rusty_Smith" class="sbn-auto-link"Rusty Smith/a was what we saw in practices from the rookie, so it's great to see him put that arm to better use in a game-like situation.br /br /bull; a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/109241/Marc_Mariani" class="sbn-auto-link"Marc Mariani/a is a lock as the returner, and he's showing a lot as a WR. Right now, he's ahead of a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/109130/Damian_Williams" class="sbn-auto-link"Damian Williams/a in my book, though they're both going to be a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/tennessee-titans" class="sbn-auto-link"Titans/a come Sunday.br /br /bull; a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/19101/Mike_Otto" class="sbn-auto-link"Mike Otto/a needs to get healthy, fast.pibBe sure to check back tomorrow morning for links, commentary and the Friday Jam!/b/i/p/p

Fisher says the Titans are open to keeping four running backs, and special teams contributions will be a consideration in picking who stays and who hits the road. pAhh the end of preseason. College ball is starting up, the oppressive southern summer is starting to break and lots of camp bodies are about to make the saddest walk to the parking lot they'll ever make. It's a damned hard thing to say that a guy has been cut from an NFL team. It often means the end of a dream they've had for their entire cognizant lives. As a sympathetic fan, the only thing worse is knowing that the player making that walk is better than the guy who gets to stay. Yet, it happens./p
pSo with that in mind, I'm putting out my own version of this all-to-common post with a little bit of a twist: Lots of 53 man roster predictions are an attempt to guess what's going to happen, but this is a declaration of what ishould/i happen based upon everything I've seen, read and concluded from intensely following this team for years. The list is 54 players long if you count McRath. It's useless to predict who will lose a spot once he's healthy because, as any soldier will tell you, the best laid plans never survive first contact with the enemy./p
pSo, with no further ado, lets head through the jump for the roster and my own comments:/p
pibOffense/b/ibr /br /bQB (3)/b: a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2903/Vince_Young" class="sbn-auto-link"Vince Young/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2845/Kerry_Collins" class="sbn-auto-link"Kerry Collins/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108606/Rusty_Smith" class="sbn-auto-link"Rusty Smith/a/p
pAWi: No surprises here, it's what we've all been thinking it would be for months now. Smith hasn't impressed much in preseason matches, but he has done so in camp and will be the 3rd QB who isn't active for most games./i/p
pbRB (3)/b: Chris Johnson, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71501/Javon_Ringer" class="sbn-auto-link"Javon Ringer/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108609/LeGarrette_Blount" class="sbn-auto-link"LeGarrette Blount/a/p
pAWi: Gado could be the surprise here because the staff seems high on him. In the end though, I just don't see the benefit in having him on there unless there are questions about Ringer's ability to be consistent in the little things. If Gado survives the cut it's more a knock on Ringer than Blount, IMO./i/p
pbr /bFB (1)/b: a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2853/Ahmard_Hall" class="sbn-auto-link"Ahmard Hall/a/p
pAWi: He's the Sarge. 'nuff said./i/p
pbr /bTE (3)/b: a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2882/Bo_Scaife" class="sbn-auto-link"Bo Scaife/a, Jared Cook, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34799/Craig_Stevens" class="sbn-auto-link"Craig Stevens/a/p
pAWi: it wouldn't shock me one bit to see the a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/tennessee-titans" class="sbn-auto-link"Titans/a find a way to carry a fourth tight end for blocking and special teams purposes, but I don't think it's a necessity since Stevens is a key special teamer and figures to lose reps to Cook in the passing game despite his growth in that role. Few teams in the league have the quality depth and familiarity with the system at this position we do./i/p
pbr /bWR (6)/b: a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/3081/Justin_Gage" class="sbn-auto-link"Justin Gage/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1644/Nate_Washington" class="sbn-auto-link"Nate Washington/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71492/Kenny_Britt" class="sbn-auto-link"Kenny Britt/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34789/Lavelle_Hawkins" class="sbn-auto-link"Lavelle Hawkins/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/109130/Damian_Williams" class="sbn-auto-link"Damian Williams/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/109241/Marc_Mariani" class="sbn-auto-link"Marc Mariani/a/p
pAWi: Mariani should be a lock at this point. Not only is he a legit returner, but he's shown some flashes at the wide receiver position. Hawk has come on enough to be counted on at the bottom end of the rotation, and Williams is a promising young wide-out. This is the best group of targets we've seen in a while./i iIf there's one position group on offense where it seems like I'm going with one more guys than they'll carry, it's here, but everyone on this list will help this team./i/p
pbOL (8)/b: Dave Stewart, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2822/Jake_Scott" class="sbn-auto-link"Jake Scott/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2836/Eugene_Amano" class="sbn-auto-link"Eugene Amano/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/19098/Leroy_Harris" class="sbn-auto-link"Leroy Harris/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2879/Michael_Roos" class="sbn-auto-link"Michael Roos/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/19101/Mike_Otto" class="sbn-auto-link"Mike Otto/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71496/Troy_Kropog" class="sbn-auto-link"Troy Kropog/a and a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34800/Fernando_Velasco" class="sbn-auto-link"Fernando Velasco/a/p
pAW: iThe starters are set in stone, and the back-ups are almost as obvious. Otto has been a fixture at the back-up tackle spot for a minute, and Kropog still has value as a versatile guard/right tackle. Velasco could be unseated, but the best candidate is Kevin Mathews, and the Titans should have no problem getting him through waivers and on the practice squad./i/p
pbr /ibDefensebr //b/ibr /bDE (6)/b: a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34790/William_Hayes" class="sbn-auto-link"William Hayes/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/19096/Jacob_Ford" class="sbn-auto-link"Jacob Ford/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108441/Derrick_Morgan" class="sbn-auto-link"Derrick Morgan/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2703/Jason_Babin" class="sbn-auto-link"Jason Babin/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34948/Eric_Bakhtiari" class="sbn-auto-link"Eric Bakhtiari/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2272/Dave_Ball" class="sbn-auto-link"Dave Ball/a/p
pAW:i I know Bakhtiari isn't on a lot of 53 man roster predictions, but I get the vibe he's a guy the staff has liked for a while, and fits the Jim Washburn profile. He's played well in the preseason and shown some fire in camp (apparently to the occasional chagrin of Blount, apparently). Ball makes the cut because he can play inside and outside. Expect these guys to trade of DNPs from week-to-week depending on the match-up./i/p
pbbr /DT (4)/b: a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2843/Tony_Brown" class="sbn-auto-link"Tony Brown/a, Jason Jones, Sen'Derrick Marks, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1812/Jovan_Haye" class="sbn-auto-link"Jovan Haye/a/p
pAW: iSeems like they have to carry more than four DTs, but keeping Ball on the roster really gives them five DTs. There's young talent in Howard and some of the other guys in camp, but they'd all be easy marks for the practice squad./i/p
pbLB (6, before McRath)/b: a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/3261/Will_Witherspoon" class="sbn-auto-link"Will Witherspoon/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2893/Stephen_Tulloch" class="sbn-auto-link"Stephen Tulloch/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108447/Rennie_Curran" class="sbn-auto-link"Rennie Curran/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1851/Jamie_Winborn" class="sbn-auto-link"Jamie Winborn/a, Collin Allred, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34794/Stanford_Keglar" class="sbn-auto-link"Stanford Keglar/a, [a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71499/Gerald_McRath" class="sbn-auto-link"Gerald McRath/a]/p
pAW: iMcRath got popped for PEDs and won't count against the roster until his suspension is over. That's what saves Stanford Keglar's roster spot. Allred is a steady back-up who helps a ton on special teams and should be safer than some of the guys ahead of him (namely Jamie WInborn)./i/p
pbbr /CB (5)/b: a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2848/Cortland_Finnegan" class="sbn-auto-link"Cortland Finnegan/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71498/Jason_McCourty" class="sbn-auto-link"Jason McCourty/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108675/Alterraun_Verner" class="sbn-auto-link"Alterraun Verner/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71500/Ryan_Mouton" class="sbn-auto-link"Ryan Mouton/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2849/Vincent_Fuller" class="sbn-auto-link"Vincent Fuller/a/p
pAW: iWhile this group looks a little short, I think the Titans enter week one with just five CBs on the roster because their scheme and over-the-top coverage with the safeties makes it plausible to play safeties at the dime spot as needed. Fuller is always listed as a safety, but he plays the nickle, and Mouton and Verner can step in there as needed./i/p
pbr /bS (5)/b: a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2859/Chris_Hope" class="sbn-auto-link"Chris Hope/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/19097/Michael_Griffin" class="sbn-auto-link"Michael Griffin/a, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108643/Myron_Rolle" class="sbn-auto-link"Myron Rolle/a, Robert Johnson, a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71502/Nick_Schommer" class="sbn-auto-link"Nick Schommer/a/p
pAW: iThe Titans have to be honest with themselves and start grooming legit back-ups at the safety position. Nickey isn't going to play anything other than special teams at a level that isn't vomit inducing, and Fuller needs to concentrate on the nickle spot. Rolle and Johnson have the one thing no other back-up safety has brought to this team in years: up-side. You have to keep them, and I think there's no question that Schommer has outplayed both. So, to make the best safety group out of the available guys, it's time to cut Nickey loose. Any argument to the contrary is just stupid at this point./i/p

With that in mind, a href="http://blogs.tennessean.com/titans/2010/08/31/titans-to-flip-returners-on-thursday/" target="_blank"the Titans will flip-flop the return order/a from last game so that Mariani gets the chances in the first half, and Damian Williams gets the return opportunities in the second half. I hope this will also give Williams a shot to concentrate on the WR position earlier in the game when the first and second teams play more since Williams still has the better chance to contribute there as of now.br /br /a href="http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/23846/tennessee_titans_30x21.shkl.jpg" target="_blank"img class="photo" src="http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/23846/tennessee_titans_30x21.shkl_medium.jpg" alt="Tennessee_titans_30x21" //a Without a doubt the a href="http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content/sports/titans-d-line-depth-tested-revealed-through-preseason-patience" target="_blank"defensive line has shown us the biggest positive gap between expectation and performance/a this preseason. A unit that carried a lot of question marks after losing two cornerstone names over the last two years now looks like the deepest and most reliable group on the defense. That's a VERY good thing for any defense that's going to play for Jeff Fisher./p

pWith Johnson essentially tabling his contract demands until next offseason, hersquo;s now focused on a third area of greed: helping Tennessee achieve the type of success it realized in 2008 (when the Titans started 10-0 and earned the AFCrsquo;s top playoff seed before falling to Baltimore) and fulfill the promise it displayed in the final 10 games of rsquo;09 (when Jeff Fisherrsquo;s team rebounded from an 0-6 start to win eight of its last 10).br /br /"I let that go," Johnson says of his push for a new deal. Like most everyone else who puts on a Redksins uniform, Kelly has been a major disappointment since he was drafted in the second round out of Oklahoma in 2008, but a change in scenery may be just what the highly-talented 6'4", 226 pass catcher needs. I'd love to see the Titans make him an offer and see what he can bring to the team should he be cut loose./p

pI meant to do this after the Cardinals game but I never got around to it. After the jump is the 53 that I have from the guys that are currently with the team. I wouldn't be surprised to see them add a veteran offensive lineman or running back if one is cut that they like. Also keep in mind that Gerald McRath is out the first four games and will not count against the 53.nbsp; That means there is another player who will make the team.nbsp; I really don't have any idea who that is going to be.nbsp; Nick Schommer seems to be the leader in the clubhouse./p

2003-2009: A dearth of wide receiver picks.
pWith the first wave of a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/tennessee-titans" class="sbn-auto-link"Titans/a cuts coming, I thought it was fair to look at the draft misses since 2003 at the wide receiver position.nbsp; The best thing about this analysis is that there has been exactly ten picks since 2003. Five by both Floyd Reese and Mike Reinfeldt as general manager of the Titans.nbsp;/p
pstrongThe Floyd Reese Picks/strong/p
pstrongTyrone Calico -/strong Second round draft pick in 2003.nbsp; The highest draft pick at this position until 2009 with the first round pick of a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71492/Kenny_Britt" class="sbn-auto-link"Kenny Britt/a.nbsp; His whole career was with the Titans.nbsp; Never lived up to the hype of his pick. His best year was 2003 with 18 receptions, 297 yards and 4 touchdowns. He will be remembered for getting busted on the side of the roadnbsp;getting "busy"nbsp;with a young lady he met at the club.nbsp; The Titans did pickup a replacement for Tyrone by picking up the eighth round pick of the a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/chicago-bears" class="sbn-auto-link"Chicago Bears/a fornbsp;2003, nbsp;a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/3081/Justin_Gage" class="sbn-auto-link"Justin Gage/a in 2007./p
pstrong2004 /strong- No wide receiver picks with the thirteen the Titans had that year./p
pstrong2005/strong - Three wide receiver picks./p
pstronga href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2861/Brandon_Jones" class="sbn-auto-link"Brandon Jones/a/strong -nbsp; Third round picknbsp; He spent four years with the team and never played in more than ten games in any season.nbsp; Always seemed to be hurt.nbsp; His best year with the Titans was his last in 2008.nbsp; He had 41 receptions, 449 yards and a one touchdown.nbsp; He signed a laughable contractnbsp; last year with the a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/san-francisco-49ers" class="sbn-auto-link"49ers/a.nbsp; Again he was non productive. This year San Francisco had the last laugh and cut himnbsp;during their nbsp;training camp.nbsp; He now is fighting to get a job with the a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/seattle-seahawks" class="sbn-auto-link"Seattle Seahawks/a./p
pstronga href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2878/Courtney_Roby" class="sbn-auto-link"Courtney Roby/a - /strongThe other third round pick who spent two yearsnbsp;with the team.nbsp; Released at the end of the 2006 season. He did one year stints with both Cincinnatii and Indianapolis before landing a job as the kick returner for the World Champion a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-orleans-saints" class="sbn-auto-link"New Orleans Saints/a.nbsp; He did very little with the Titans but should be commended for not quiting and landing a job in the league.nbsp; His best season was his first, 21 receptions, 289 yards and one touchdown./p
pstronga href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2900/Roydell_Williams" class="sbn-auto-link"Roydell Williams/a - /strongThe fourth round pick of that year.nbsp; He has been out of the league since 2007. His best season was his last with the team. 55 receptions, 719 yards and 4 touchdowns.nbsp; The last two years he has been what Blaine Bishop calls a training camp guy.nbsp; Meaning he get invites to a teams training camp but is not going to make the team. He is there to spread the work load out between the players. This year he is at the a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/washington-redskins" class="sbn-auto-link"Redskins/a camp./p
pstronga href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2875/Jonathan_Orr" class="sbn-auto-link"Jonathan Orr/a /strong- Last of the Floyd Reese picksnbsp;taken in the sixth round so not really painful.nbsp; He was with the team for one year and never played a game.nbsp; He is out of the league.nbsp; The Titans didnbsp;take a flyer atnbsp;defensive back by taking Courtlandnbsp;Finnegannbsp;in the seventh round.nbsp;nbsp;Hindsight is twenty-twenty with another flyer taken laternbsp;in the seventh round that year by the Saints on a player named a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2005/Marques_Colston" class="sbn-auto-link"Marques Colston/a./p
pstrongMike Reinfeldtnbsp; 2007 - 2009/strong/p
pstronga href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/19102/Paul_Williams" class="sbn-auto-link"Paul Williams/a -nbsp;/strongThird round pick of 2007.nbsp; Has yet to produce anything on field.nbsp; He by far has been a bust and should be hearing the phrase thenbsp;coach wants to see you and bring your playbook real soon./p
pstronga href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/19819/Joel_Filani" class="sbn-auto-link"Joel Filani/a -/strong Sixth round pick of 2007.nbsp; Another sixth round bust so not a real loss. He was with the team for three season. His career stat lines reads as follows....0 receptions 0 yards andnbsp; 0 touchdowns.nbsp; He was a permanent fixture on the inactive list every sunday./p
pstronga href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34789/Lavelle_Hawkins" class="sbn-auto-link"Lavelle Hawkins/a /strong- fourth round 2008 pick.nbsp; I remember when he was drafted the Titans brassnbsp;said "we got the smarter one" of the two between him and Desean Jackson.nbsp; Two years later it looks like the a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/philadelphia-eagles" class="sbn-auto-link"Eagles/a got the smart one as long as we are talking NFL football smarts.nbsp; A second round pick D. Jacksnbsp; two year stat line looks like this 124 receptions, 2068 yards and 11 touchdowns.nbsp; Lavelle Hawkins two year stats are not so glowing. In fact, they are down right depressing.nbsp; 14 receptions, 178 yards and no touchdowns.nbsp;nbsp; It is obvious this is a make a break camp or year for Lavelle.nbsp; He either producesnbsp;on the fieldnbsp;for the team or it is time for him go somewhere else where the NFL smarts light will come on.nbsp;/p
pstrongKenny Britt /strong- first round 2009 pick.nbsp;nbsp; It is still a little early to be too judgemental on Kenny. He has the build to be a big time receiver with a 6'3' frame.nbsp; We have seen flashes of his outstanding ability in the first eighteen months he has been with the team.nbsp; Unfortunately, maturity issues seem to crop up every timenbsp;I think he has turned the corner.nbsp; He needs to grow up both on and off the field.nbsp; This year we need to see Kenny take a step to be a clear number two receiver on the field.nbsp; He needs to push Justin Cage to the secondary third receivernbsp;role in the offensive scheme.nbsp; If this happens this offense will be hard to stop. Until then the jury is still out on this pick./p
pstrongDominque Edison/strong - sixth round 2009 pick.nbsp; On the sixth round bust track that has happened two other times since 2003. Dominque has yet to contribute anything in any game.nbsp; He is permanent name on the inactive list.nbsp; I do not know if the team will keep him around for this season.nbsp; In my opinion, it is time to cut bait and move on to the next guy./p
pIt is said by NFL draft experts the toughest position(other than QB)nbsp;to draft is a wide receiver.nbsp; The analysis of the wide receiver picks since 2003nbsp;for the Titans proves this point.nbsp; Nine zeros out of the last ten picks at this position means the team needs to do a better job evaluating.nbsp;nbsp; Quit looking for the late round sleepernbsp;nbsp;and focus on first or second round talent at this position. An upgrade in drafting of talent will lead to an upgrade of production on the field./p
