THE MOTIVE BEHIND THE MURDER OF STEVE MCNAIR

Metro police tied a bow on the Steve McNair investigation, saying a "totality of evidence points to murder-suicide".  Police Chief Ronal Serpas delivered the details in an afternoon news conference. And they are stunning details.
Sahel Kazemi was "spinning out of control" when she killed former Titans star Steve McNair.
Kazemi had become distraught and told friends her life was all messed up and she was going to end it all.  Detectives learned she was facing a lot of financial stress...making payments on two cars - her own Kia, and the Cadillac Escalade that McNair gave her as a birthday present. In addition her roommate was moving out, doubling her rent.
Plus she was suspicious that McNair was seeing another woman.  Detectives say Kazemi apparently watched another woman leaving the condo several days before the shooting and tried to follow her.
Her arrest for DUI early Thursday morning apparently made things worse.  Later that day, Police say Kazemi contacted a person she knew who had a gun for sale. The transaction went down in the Opry Mills Mall parking lot around 5pm Thursday.  She bought a 9mm handgun for $100.
As late as Friday night, Kazemi told a co-worker at Dave and Buster's that she was thinking about ending it all.  Inside the condo early Saturday morning, police paint a picture of a sad, desperate and determined young woman who was making good on her vow. The shooting occurred between 1am - 1:45am. Physical evidence shows no sign of a struggle.  McNair may have been sleeping when he was shot.  It happened very quickly.  The first shot was to McNair's head, then two shots to the chest from 2 - 4 feet away.  The last shot to his head was fired close up.
Then, police say, Kazemi tried to stage her death so her head would fall in his lap.  She sat down next to him, put the gun next to her skull and pulled the trigger.  She did fall in his lap, but then slid to the floor.
